I am overwhelmed to see my first book, Etiquette of Life A2Z, published. It’s truly a dream come true for me. I thank God Almighty for making this happen.
The Shining Literature: What inspired you to write Etiquette of Life A2Z, and why did you choose the A–Z format?
Latha S. Moorthy:
Actually, I used to engage my leisure time in drawing, craft making, and writing anything that came to my mind. Then I thought, why not prepare a book? That inspired me to write Etiquette of Life A2Z.
The A–Z format came to me as a simple thought—life itself has so many lessons from A to Z, and I wanted to make them simple, easy to remember, and useful for anyone at any age.
The Shining Literature: As an educator, how has your experience with students influenced the lessons and values shared in this book?
Latha S. Moorthy:
I am a retired teacher, and I always used to motivate my students and advise them on their good and bad actions. In the beginning, they would ignore it. But later, many of them came back and confided in me that I was right.
Thinking of all those incidents, I thought I should pen down those life lessons so they could reach more than just my classroom.
The Shining Literature: The book focuses on timeless virtues such as mindfulness, patience, and hospitality. Which value do you believe is most important in today’s world, and why?
Latha S. Moorthy:
In today’s world, I believe the most important value is mindfulness. We live in a world full of stress, constant notifications, and anxiety—I hear so many people speak about anxiety these days. Mindfulness teaches us to pause, to be present in the moment, and to respond calmly rather than react quickly. When we are mindful, patience and hospitality naturally follow.
The Shining Literature: Was there a particular chapter or life lesson that was especially meaningful or challenging for you to write?
Latha S. Moorthy:
Yes. The life lessons on noble, righteous, and virtuous living were the most challenging and the most meaningful. They are simple words, but living them is not simple. Writing about them made me reflect deeply on my own life, and that reflection is what made those chapters so close to my heart.
The Shining Literature: Who do you hope will benefit the most from reading Etiquette of Life A2Z? Is it written mainly for students, or can parents and professionals also gain from it?
Latha S. Moorthy:
My heart was with Gen Z students when I wrote this book, and their parents. If it helps them navigate life with more grace and confidence, I will be happy. Professionals may also find it useful in polishing their career and conduct.
I am a debut author, and I offer this book humbly, with the hope that it finds whoever needs it.
The Shining Literature: Your personal philosophy is, “Life has no limitations except the ones we make.” How has this belief shaped your own life and career?
Latha S. Moorthy:
My philosophy has always been that life has no limitations except the ones we make. That belief taught me never to limit my love or my duty. It helped me be a devoted daughter to my parents, a faithful and loving wife to my husband, a caring mother to my son, and a supportive presence to my siblings, relatives, friends, students, and colleagues.
I never saw these roles as competing with each other—I saw them as different ways life gave me opportunities to grow.
The Shining Literature: What do you hope readers will take away after finishing your book?
Latha S. Moorthy:
My hope is that they take away three things:
- Etiquette is not about being perfect; it is about being considerate.
- Small manners create a peaceful life.
- It is never too late to refine ourselves.
The Shining Literature: Are you currently working on another book or any future writing projects that you can share with us?
Latha S. Moorthy:
Not at the moment. Right now, my whole heart is with Etiquette of Life A2Z. I really want to see how readers receive it, how they live it, and what words speak to them the most.
But yes, I would love to write more. This book has shown me how much joy there is in sharing life lessons simply. When the right idea comes, I will write again.
